Mentor Information

Graduate Student Mentorship Program

The Graduate Student Mentorship Program at the McCoy College of Business officially launched in Spring 2023 and is unique to our graduate students. Students are given the opportunity to witness a company’s culture and be exposed to professionals. The companies in return get a glimpse of a candidate for their company’s future employment opportunities.

We welcome and invite you to become a mentor for our upcoming program. Please also spread the word to your friends who might want to take part in this unique opportunity. Registration is closed for Spring 2024 but open for future semesters.

“For those who have been given much, much is expected. It's my honor and responsibility to share my experiences, successes, and failures with younger people to better prepare them for life's realities."

Bruce Smith
Graduate Student Mentor
President and CEO, Safety Vision

Desired Outcome

The aim of this program is for students to gain firsthand professional experience in a unique setting. This opportunity will advance their professional skills to include interpersonal communication, efficiency models, networking, professional decorum, business acumen, and cultural nuances.

Time Commitment

The program includes three meetings (15-30 minutes). These meetings will take place on the first Wednesday of each month which helps us keep track of all the student action items. The timing, duration, platform, and topics of these meetings are decided between mentor and mentee after an email introduction.

Your attendance as a mentor is required on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, February 7, 2024
  • Wednesday, March 6, 2024
  • Wednesday, April 3, 2024

Matching Mentees to Mentors

Placement and pairing are based on projected graduation dates. We pair you with a mentee of similar interest.

Attendance

Attendance is mandatory. Issues are rare, but we will address them should they arise. Contact us immediately if an issue surfaces. Dealing with challenges provides experience in how to effectively navigate difficult conversations.

More details are provided after program acceptance. We hope you can join us for the next program cycle and we extend a special thank you to those mentors who are returning.
