International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education as part of the effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences. McCoy College is hosting several events to celebrate International Education Week.

Online Cultural Event: Swedish Fika and Baking Class

Come learn how to make traditional Swedish pastries with a professional baker! Your host will be Lhea, an expert in cooking and baking typical Swedish cakes, desserts, and other dishes. During this class, Lhea will welcome you virtually into her kitchen in Stockholm and give you insights into Swedish family life, answer your questions about their traditions and lifestyle, and of course help you bake some delicious treats. You will learn how to make the recipe for 'Kanelbullar' which is a a cinnamon/cardamon roll! Come learn how to bake this delicious pastry and understand the concept of Fika - a state of mind and important part of Swedish culture that values making time each day to savor a cup of coffee and spend time with loved ones. Spots are limited, so register today to secure your spot!  An ingredient list will be provided to participants in advance of the event so you can bake along with Lhea.

Learn how to bake Pastel de Nata with a fifth-generation Portuguese chef! Pastel de Nata is a typical Portuguese dessert that can be described as an egg custard tart pastry. The recipe for this country favorite dates back over 300 years to Belém, a civil parish located west of Lisbon. 'Pastéis de nata' was created by monks in the Jerónimos Monastery which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site! In this class, Pastry Chef João will bring you the sweetest side of Portugal live from the kitchen of his family bakery. This sweet experience is definitely something you don't want to miss! Learn how to cook Paella from scratch! Paella is a rice dish originally from Valencia named for the type of pan in which it is cooked. Learn the family recipes from a Spanish top chef from the comfort of your home. Your teacher, Helina, is a chef & founder of Paella Barcelona cooking school and a self-proclaimed foodie. She will walk you through each recipe step by step to help you create a restaurant-quality meal! Spots are limited, so register today to secure your spot!
