Texas State University's McCoy College of Business has launched the Center for Family Enterprise (CFE) to support the success of family businesses and other family-led enterprises through research, education, and meaningful community engagement.
The CFE will serve as a trusted resource for families who own, lead, govern, and steward businesses across generations. The launch comes as family enterprises face increasingly complex challenges related to governance, succession, ownership, technological change, and long-term continuity. The CFE will help family enterprises address these challenges while promoting long-term growth and success. By combining academic research with real-world insights, the center will support family enterprises while strengthening economies and communities across Texas and beyond.
"Family enterprises are the backbone of the Texas economy and the heart of its communities," said Sanjay Ramchander, dean of McCoy College. “The Center for Family Enterprise will serve as a hub and valuable resource for families seeking inspiration, insight, and a clear path forward.”
The center is built on three strategic pillars:
- Research — Producing and sharing actionable knowledge on the challenges and opportunities facing family enterprises.
- Education — Developing transformative learning experiences for current and next-generation leaders, advisors, and enterprising families.
- Engagement — Convening family enterprises, scholars, students and ecosystem partners through events, dialogue and meaningful collaboration.
"Texas State University has built meaningful strength in family business research, and the Center for Family Enterprise helps us share insights with leaders who can benefit the most," said Josh Daspit, associate professor and family business researcher. “By engaging with these leaders, we can better understand the challenges they face and, ultimately, conduct impactful research that supports family businesses, the families who lead them, and their communities.”
The CFE is guided by a founding advisory board of distinguished business leaders, advisors, and university representatives who will shape the center's strategic direction and expand its impact. The board includes family business leaders and advisors from across Texas.
"Our mission is straightforward: to empower family enterprises and their leaders to grow with purpose and achieve multigenerational success," said Salvador Cerón, board advisor for the CFE. “Texas has extraordinary family enterprises that have built communities and created jobs across generations. The Center for Family Enterprise will be their partner.”
Family enterprises, professional advisors, researchers, prospective students, and community partners interested in engaging with the center are encouraged to contact the center via email at familyenterprise@txstate.edu. ✯
