The McCoy College of Business honors the life and legacy of Dr. Todd Jewell, professor emeritus of finance and economics, whose decade of service to Texas State University left a lasting impact on the college, the university, and the countless students, faculty, and staff he served.

Dr. Jewell joined Texas State in 2014 as a professor in the Department of Finance and Economics at the McCoy College of Business. During his tenure, he served in several leadership roles, including Finance and Economics department chair, associate dean of the college, interim chair of the Department of Information Systems and Analytics — formerly known as the Department of Computer Information Systems and Quantitative Methods — and faculty ombudsperson.

He was instrumental in expanding the college's curriculum by developing undergraduate and graduate courses in sports economics. His research explored the economics of professional sports, labor markets, and finance, and his work was widely published in leading academic journals including the Journal of Health Economics, Atlantic Economic Journal, Health Economics, and the International Journal of Industrial Economics.

Dr. Jewell also helped in advancing McCoy College and Texas State through his leadership in research development, graduate education, internationalization, faculty development, distance learning, and strategic planning. He also dedicated his time to numerous university committees and initiatives, supporting faculty governance, institutional review, and community engagement.

Throughout his career, Dr. Jewell was admired for his professionalism, intellectual curiosity, and genuine dedication to serving others. 

The McCoy College of Business extends its deepest condolences to Dr. Jewell's family, friends, former students, and colleagues. His legacy of scholarship, leadership, and service will remain an enduring part of the Texas State community. ✯
