Business Faculty Honored at Annual Meeting

SAN MARCOS, Texas — The McCoy College of Business at Texas State University announced this year’s recipients of college- and university-level awards at its annual fall meeting for faculty and staff on Thursday, Aug. 17.

Woods Research Award
and Olney Early Career Research Award

Among those recognized were the winners of the Gary V. Woods Research Award and the Robert J. Olney Early Career Research Award, the two highest research honors awarded by the McCoy College. The Woods Research Award — chosen from among all tenured and tenure-track faculty, based on scholarly performance over the course of three years — went to Dr. Maggie Wan, associate professor of management. The Olney Early Career Research Award recognizes the scholarly success of a faculty member early in their career; this year’s recipient was Dr. Emily Zhu Fainman, assistant professor of information systems and analytics.

College-Level Awards

College Achievement Awards recognized 12 outstanding faculty members. For research, awards went to Dr. Josh Daspit, associate professor in management; Dr. Ivilina Popova, professor in finance and economics; Dr. Billy Brewster, associate professor in accounting; and Dr. Emily Wang, assistant professor in accounting. Awards for teaching honored Dr. Stephanie Solansky, associate professor of management; Dr. Vance Lesseig, associate professor of finance and economics; Dr. Aditya Gupta, assistant professor of marketing; and Zach Kelley, lecturer information systems and analytics. For service, awards went to Dr. Gail Zank, assistant chair and professor of marketing; Dr. Carolyn Conn, clinical associate professor of accounting; Ken Murdock, senior lecturer in marketing; and Alex Hampshire, senior lecturer in accounting.

Changemaker Award

This year, the McCoy College of Business presented its Changemaker Award to four recipients: Bobbie Moore and Christina Moore, both lecturers in management, for their work in student mentoring and the McCoy College living-learning community (LLC); and Twister Marquiss, manager of marketing and communications, and Nichole Black, digital marketing strategist, for their work in marketing and communications for the college.

Presidential Distinction Awards

At the university level, several McCoy College faculty members earned Presidential Distinction Awards. For research, awards went to Dr. Linda Alkire, associate professor of marketing; Dr. Garry White, associate professor of information systems and analytics; Dr. Masoud Moradi, assistant professor of marketing; and Dr. Muxin Zhai, assistant professor of finance and economics. For teaching, awards went to Dr. Ha-Chin Yi, professor of finance and economics; Dr. Dincer Konur, associate professor of information systems and analytics; Dr. Binod Guragai, assistant professor of accounting; and Kathy Moffitt, senior lecturer in accounting. For service, awards recognized Dr. Tahir Ekin, the Jerry D. and Linda Gregg Fields Chair in Business Analytics; Dr. Ruby Kishan, professor of finance and economics; Dr. Holly Syrdal, assistant professor of marketing; and Dr. Chris Proschko, lecturer in accounting.
