SPRINGFIELD, Missouri — Texas State University’s Information Technology Students of America (ITSA) team placed in seven different categories at the U.S. Information Technology Collegiate Conference (USITCC) Regionals held by the Missouri State University College of Business on Oct. 20-22.

President Abigail Grover says the event was a huge success for Texas State, and a fantastic ITSA experience where all the members learned a great deal.

“I personally won first place in Microsoft Office with my friend and VP of Chapter Affairs Lance Spivey. We were so excited and honored to win. I graduate this semester so those are memories I am so happy to have made and I will cherish them for many, many years,” said Grover.

The Texas State team also placed first in the Business Analytics category, and third in Database, Network Design, and another Microsoft Office, marking the event as a knockout for Texas State.

Grover describes ITSA as a “student business organization committed to the idea of providing students with opportunities for professional development, networking, and having fun.”

They host a series of meetings each semester that feature keynote speakers from companies such as GM or A+ Federal Credit Union, participate in competitions such as the USITCC Regionals, and organize monthly social events in order to encourage networking within the organization.

Events like the USITCC Regionals are Grover’s favorite as it allows her to spend more time with her fellow officers and other members, get inspired and excited about ITSA, as well as gain a lot of knowledge that will help once she graduates and starts her career.

However, after celebrating such a victory, ITSA isn’t done for the semester. They plan to host an IT Symposium, which is a yearly event that invites local high school students to the Texas State campus. The ITSA members get to show them what it’s like to be a Bobcat, and give them a little more in-depth look at what it’s like to be a part of the ITSA program.

“We provide tours, technical competitions to encourage interest in the ITSA degree, and other activities.  Many of our members who went to Regionals and even those who did not, stepped up to volunteer at the event by helping proctor tests, provide snacks, act as campus guides and more. It really helped us create a successful event,” said Grover.

Competitions like USITCC and events like the IT Symposium hold a special place in members like Abigail Grover’s heart, and although she is graduating this December these are memories she says she will carry with her forever.

“I feel the Regionals trip helped everyone connect and inspired our members to get involved. I am very excited for everybody not graduating to compete in the National competition next spring so they can win even more!” ✯
