SAN MARCOS, Texas — Beta Alpha Psi, the international honor organization for students in accounting, finance, and information systems, has announced that the Kappa Eta chapter at the McCoy College of Business has received international recognition as a Superior Chapter.

This Superior Chapter recognition commends the chapter for its outstanding efforts during the 2021-2022 academic year and includes an award of $500, sponsored by KPMG and the KPMG Foundation.

According to the chapter’s faculty advisor, Laurie Brown, senior lecturer in the Department of Accounting, the Kappa Eta chapter has earned Superior Chapter status for 20 of the last 21 years. “Superior is the highest level of recognition that can be attained by a specific Beta Alpha Psi chapter,” Brown said. “We’ve been a Superior Chapter since our inception [in 2001], with the exception of one year.”

In a letter to McCoy College, Beta Alpha Psi President Kimberly Ellison-Taylor offered her congratulations to the Kappa Eta chapter, as well as to Brown and organization coach Charles (Keith) Kebodeaux. “Recognition as a Superior Chapter is a significant accomplishment,” Ellison-Taylor wrote. “[T]he Kappa Eta Chapter has far exceeded the baseline requirements of Beta Alpha Psi and has excelled in the areas of academics, professionalism, and leadership. I want to especially congratulate the Kappa Eta chapter on its accomplishment during this particularly challenging year.”

"This recognition is a fitting testament of [Brown and Kebodeaux’s] unflagging work in support of our students,” said Dr. Sanjay Ramchander, Dean of the McCoy College of Business.

Brown said that to achieve Superior Chapter recognition, McCoy College students have participated in more volunteer events and professional development events, and attended Beta Alpha Psi regional and annual conferences.

Additionally, the chapter invites three public accounting firms to each of its meetings for discussion.

“We work with professional partners to improve the professional development of our students and encourage volunteerism in the community,” Brown said. “We’re a local chapter with international connections.” ✯
