McCoy College of Business Alumni Updates

  • Ashraf Shaik
M.S. in Data Analtytics and Information Systems 2024

Since graduating from the McCoy College of Business, Ashraf Shaik has had an exciting journey of growth and development. He began by joining McCoy College as a lecturer for the ISA1323 course for a semester, which provided valuable teaching experience. Later, he joined Harris County as a data fellow in a seasonal role that lasted nine months. During that time, he contributed significantly to projects and expanded his skills in data analysis and public health. Recently, Ahraf was thrilled to be hired directly by Harris County Public Health as a data analyst, a role that reflects the dedication and hard work he put in as a data fellow. Through this journey, he has learned the importance of taking one step at a time and staying consistent.

    Savanna Perkola
    BBA in Marketing, 2020

Like many of her fellow 2020 graduates, Savanna Perkola's future was suddenly up in the air when her job offer for post-graduation was rescinded due to the pandemic. She quickly found herself unsure of what the future would look like and if she would ever be able to get into the marketing world — the first job she managed to find during COVID was working in a call center. After her career took the most unexpected but rewarding route she ever could have hoped for, she has been named as the new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for her company, Houston Police Credit Union.

    Shane Sosa
    BBA in Finance 2008

Since graduating from Texas State University, Shane Sosa has dedicated his career to helping property owners navigate the complex world of insurance claims. As the co-founder and CEO of PALCO Claims, a public adjusting firm headquartered in New Braunfels, Texas, Shane leads a team of licensed adjusters who advocate for policyholders when their insurance claims are delayed, underpaid, or denied. In the past year, PALCO Claims has expanded operations beyond Texas into Oklahoma and Nevada, with additional states on the horizon. They have successfully represented commercial and residential clients in securing millions of dollars in claim recoveries, often in cases that were initially denied by insurers. Beyond case results, Shane is focused on building PALCO into a nationwide firm specializing in large-loss commercial claims exceeding $250,000. This includes developing advanced training programs for adjusters, leveraging technology for claim management, and publishing educational resources to empower property owners and contractors. His journey from Texas State to building a company that advocates for fairness in the insurance industry has been both challenging and rewarding. He is grateful for the foundation Texas State provided and looks forward to continuing to grow as a leader and mentor in this space.
