Our new Student Success Center opens in fall 2023

The McCoy College of Business is building a new Student Success Center to advance the academic, professional, and personal development of undergraduate students. Officially opening in Fall 2023, the center will offer programs and services that facilitate student learning, personal growth, career readiness, and degree completion.

Construction work on the Student Success Center began March 13. The new facility will be the first of its kind at Texas State University and among only a handful of such centers in business schools across the nation. It will be located on the first floor of McCoy Hall and will be one of the focal points of the college, elevating the undergraduate student learning experience.

In January, Gina Escamilla was named the inaugural director of the Student Success Center. She was previously an academic advisor at Texas State — she began advising at the Round Rock Campus in 2015 and transferred to McCoy College in 2017, serving as Academic Advisor II. In her time as an academic advisor, she enthusiastically assisted students in navigating their academic degree programs and graduation. Escamilla is a proud, two-time alumna of Texas State, holding a B.B.A. in management and a M.Ed. in management of technical education.

"Last year I announced the creation of a new Student Success Center aimed at accelerating the preparation of McCoy College students for academic and career success, as well as a lifetime of leadership and achievement," said Dr. Sanjay Ramchander, Dean of the McCoy College of Business. "As director, Gina will provide leadership and oversight for the center and be responsible for the development and implementation of student success programs for undergraduate students in the McCoy College of Business."

The center will serve as a collaborative hub for students, faculty, staff, alumni, employers, as well as campus and industry partners — equipping students to emerge professionally prepared to pursue successful careers.

Student Success Center services will include:

  • Academic transition programs for first-year students
  • Applied real-world learning opportunities
  • Professional development workshops
  • Community building activities
  • Networking and mentoring programs
  • Internship and career placement services
  • Mental health and wellbeing programs

Center staff will be dedicated to ensuring all elements of the McCoy College’s programs and services work together to support student learning and growth.

TXSTMcCoy Magazine will provide more detailed information about the Student Success Center in our Fall 2023 issue. ✯
