Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to complete the DBA program?
The program is designed to be completed in three years of full-time study. Students progress together as a cohort, and the program is tailored for working professionals.
What is the format of the program? Is it fully online?
Courses are delivered fully online and asynchronously in 8-week terms (two in fall, two in spring, one in summer). Students take six courses per year, with some terms requiring two courses. While optional synchronous opportunities (virtual and in-person) are offered, they are never required.
How much time should I expect to dedicate each week to the program?
Students should plan to spend 15–20 hours per week on coursework.
How does a DBA differ from a PhD?
The DBA emphasizes applied research that can be directly applicable to your professional work, while a PhD focuses on theoretical research.
When do students select their dissertation topic?
Students choose their dissertation topic in the first year, in consultation with the DBA program director. Faculty chairs are assigned based on expertise in the chosen research area.
Are concentrations offered?
No formal concentrations are offered, but students may select electives to tailor their studies.
When are admission decisions made?
Admissions are rolling. Applicants typically receive a decision within 3–4 weeks after the review begins for a given term.
- Fall admission reviews begin in February.
- Spring admission reviews begin in September.
Can I transfer credits into the program?
Up to 12 doctoral-level credits from a non-completed degree may be transferred. Transfer credits from completed degrees or master’s coursework are not accepted.
Are application fee waivers available?
Application fee waivers may be available based on financial need. Details are available through the Graduate College.
Can I apply with in-progress grades in my master’s program?
Yes, but all degree requirements must be completed and final grades posted before registering for DBA courses, if admitted.
What is the total cost of the DBA program? Do you offer a payment plan?
The total program cost is $36,900, regardless of residency status. Tuition is billed at the beginning of each 8-week term, with five payments per year. Payment plans within a term are not available. Further information on program costs can be found here.
Is financial aid available?
Students may apply for financial aid by submitting the FAFSA and are encouraged to explore external scholarships. Institutional scholarships are reserved for in-person programs. Accelerated Online Program (AOP) students are not eligible for emergency loans or graduate assistantships. In addition, we encourage students to explore tuition assistance opportunities with their employers.
Does the program accept military benefits?
Military benefits may be used for the DBA program. Students should contact the Office of Veteran Affairs for details about eligibility and benefits.
