CBAPPS 2.05 Graduation Certification

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. University policy states that advising will be available for each student. The McCoy College provides advising assistance through its Academic Advising Center, major departments, and faculty. However, students are ultimately responsible for satisfying graduation requirements whether they seek available assistance.

2. Undergraduate:

A. New Student Orientation (NSO). The University requires every new student (freshman, readmit, or transfer) to complete New Student Orientation. Orientation sessions are conducted in a variety of formats (electronically and/or in-person) depending on the student’s admission status and must be completed to have the Orientation hold lifted from their student account. As part of NSO, new/returning students are required to meet with an Academic Advisor to have their Advising hold lifted and discuss degree program requirements, university policies, semester course recommendations, and general registration information. Students with Orientation and/or Advising holds will be prevented from enrolling in courses until they complete the required steps to have their holds resolved.

B. Academic Advisors. Academic Advisors primarily assist students with understanding their degree program requirements, university academic policies, and recommended course sequencing for semester planning. Advising services are available to all undergraduate business students and it is recommended for students to work regularly with an academic advisor to verify they are on track toward graduation. Additionally, Academic Advisors may also assist students with identifying campus/community resources and/or opportunities to support them academically, personally, and professionally.

C. Restricted Status. Any business student whose Texas State GPA drops below a
2.0 in any semester (including summer) is placed on restricted status by McCoy College. Business majors on restricted status must increase their Texas State GPA to at least 2.0 in the subsequent semester they intend to take classes or their admission to McCoy College will be voided. When a student’s admission is voided, they may reapply for admission using the online McCoy College Internal Application once they have returned to good academic standing and meet all other admission criteria. McCoy College students with a Texas State GPA below a 2.0 after a fall or spring semester are also subject to the university probation and suspension policies stated in the Undergraduate Catalog. Students placed on Restricted Status with McCoy College and/or Academic Probation with the University will have holds placed on their student account preventing registration and schedule changes until lifted. To have these holds lifted, students must by advised by an Academic Advisor.

D. Course Requirements. A list of all courses required to earn an undergraduate degree with any chosen business major can be found in the Undergraduate Catalog. The information featured in the catalog for each major includes admission requirements, course descriptions, and recommended course sequencing (by semester) to ensure prerequisites are fulfilled in the appropriate order leading to graduation.

E. Degree Audit Report. A Degree Audit Report featuring program requirements and progress toward degree completion may be accessed electronically by    every student admitted to Texas State through CatsWeb. Degree Audit Reports are unofficial until reviewed by an academic advisor. Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with their Degree Audit in addition to meeting with an academic advisor to verify degree requirements and ensure they remain on track for graduation.

F. Graduation Application. All students are required to apply for graduation to officially graduate and be awarded a diploma from Texas State. Students must submit their graduation application in CatsWeb at the beginning of the semester in which they intend to graduate and by the deadline stated in the Academic Calendar. (Please see CBAPPS 2.05.)

2. Graduate:

A. Advising is available to all graduate business students in the McCoy Graduate School of Business.

B. An official degree audit is available in Degree Works for all students accepted into the McCoy Graduate School of Business. The degree audit lists all background and core courses required for the student's degree. The degree audit also specifies the number of graduate business electives required for the degree.

C. Deviations from the official degree outline must be approved by the graduate academic advisor, the Program Director, the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, and the dean of the Graduate College.

D. Graduate students whose graduate grade point average (the GPA earned on graduate core and elective courses only) drops below 3.0 are placed on academic probation.

E. Any student enrolled in a graduate degree program in the McCoy College of Business can earn no more than two grades of C or lower. Even if the grade of C or lower was replaced with a higher grade as a result of repeating the course, the original grade counts as one of the two allowed C grades under this policy. Upon earning the third C (or lower), the student is automatically placed on academic suspension and permanently dismissed from his/her degree program without any possibility of readmission to the program or another degree program in McCoy College.
